“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.”
- Laura Ingalls Wilder
Springtime is approaching! The warm air… the birds chirping…the first buds opening … okay, we realize for those of you in the north it’s still snow and grey right now! But it’s not too early to think about those sunshine days coming ahead!
During Spring, Earth increases its tilt toward the sun and the length of daylight increases for us in the northern hemisphere. Things begin to warm here, snow melts, and air and land temperatures increase. There’s new plant growth and many flowering plants bloom. But it’s the season for us to bloom too!
Spring is the season of rejuvenation, regrowth, and renewal. Think about some things you can do for yourself to rejuvenate. Is it getting a facial? Trying a morning yoga class at the park? For regrowth, it’s never too late to stop learning. A new hobby, or perhaps getting a book from the library on a subject you had never considered before? Don’t be scared to give something “different” a chance, you never know how much talent and enjoyment you can have for something new! And renewal is also important this time of year. Open the windows and clean out the house! All those clothes that don’t fit you right, the toys that your little ones have outgrown – donate them a worthwhile charity that can distribute these items to others who need them and will use them now.
Even though the weather will be warming, know that the tiniest ones are less tolerant of the cold; so though you may be comfy in a tee shirt, your little guy can still use a long-sleeve bodysuit. Speaking of clothing, what better way to celebrate a Springtime pregnancy than with our comfy Belly In Bloom shirt? And with Earth Day approaching, our Create Change tee for Mummies-to-be and Wonderful World tee for baby are perfect options.
University of Michigan research confirms that the positive effect of warmer and sunny weather on mood, memory, and mental health is for real. However, we hardly need scientists to tell us this; just sit on your porch on one of those first gorgeous spring days, breathe in the warm air, and notice how your body reacts! So when the weather gets good, go outside for some sunshine and fresh air. And take the time for some of your own rejuvenation, regrowth, and renewal too!
