Springtime is here! The warm air…the birds chirping…the first buds opening…okay, we realize that this year is hardly a typical Spring. But let's try to focus on the sunny days coming ahead!
During Spring, Earth increases its tilt toward the sun and the length of daylight increases for us in the northern hemisphere. Things begin to warm here, snow melts, and air and land temperatures increase. There’s new plant growth and many flowering plants bloom. Even though many of us may be stuck at home, it’s the season for us to take bloom too!
Spring is the season of rejuvenation, regrowth, and renewal. Think about some things you can do for yourself to rejuvenate. Is it doing a DIY facial? Trying a morning yoga class from your living room via modern technology? For regrowth, it’s never too late to stop learning. A new hobby, or perhaps delving into a subject you had never considered before? Don’t be scared to give something “different” a chance, you never know how much talent and enjoyment you can have for something new! And renewal is also important this time of year. Open the windows and clean out the house!
Although staying at home may have you more irritable, try to spend time outside in your yard if you have one. Even if you don't, open the windows to let some sunlight and fresh air into your space. University of Michigan research confirms that the positive effect of warmer and sunny weather on mood, memory, and mental health is for real. However, we hardly need scientists to tell us this; just sit on your porch or balcony during of these first gorgeous spring days, breathe in the warm air, and notice how your body reacts! So when the weather gets good, try to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air. And take the time for a little of your own rejuvenation, regrowth, and renewal too!
